EDL Ease is code signed and Notarized by Apple. Allow apps from Identified Developers if prompted on first run.

The Future of EDL Ease - Apple Intel Software

Apple has announced that support for intel based software like EDL Ease will end with the release of OSX 27 Golden Gate coming in September 2026.

EDL Ease WILL NOT function under this new OS. OSX Tahoe will continue to run EDL Ease and most likely be supported by Apple through the end of 2027 and longer if you keep using this OS.

Regrettably, I have no plans to update EDL Ease to a silicon version nor pay the developer fees to meet the Apple requirements for public distribution of third party software as well as the costs of licensing the supporting plugins required as well. Although Apple has intentionally made what seems like more difficulty and costs to distribute free and open software it is essential all developers play in their sand box abiding by their rules to ensure the safety, veracity and trustworthiness of independently authored applications.

If an existing developer, well versed in Swift/Xcode wants to take this on, I would be happy to provide some of the developer knowledge to ensure it’s continued development.

I hope EDL Ease has helped you in the past. I’ll keep it posted as long as possible and wish you luck with all your productions.

    Updating your OS

I am happy to report that EDL Ease is still compatible with current Apple operating systems. Apple OS updates often bring extensive internal security changes. If the program does not run after updating your OS, try these steps.

Delete the App and drag it back off the installer into the Applications Folder and always run it from that location.
Then in your security settings do the following to allow EDL Ease to run.

Make sure software from both the App Store and Identified Developers is checked.
In Security/Full Disk Access - Add EDL Ease
In Security/Files and Folders - Add EDL Ease
In Security/Developer tools add EDL Ease and allow to run locally bypassing Apple’s security policy.

If you are still having a problem, need help or would like to report a bug please do send me an email. If it does not function in your workflow I'd like to know and will include fixes or features for future updates.

    Known Issues:

If you convert an EDL and some of the edit events are missing data in the exported file try generating an a Flat EDL. In AVID make sure Show Dissolves and Wipes as Cuts is turned on. In the case of Adobe Premier uncheck "Include Transitions" in the EDL settings. This generates a less complicated EDL and usually fixes this issue.

Not really an issue but should be noted: EDL Ease prefers source and clip names in your workflow to follow ISO and other common naming conventions. Spaces, underscores, dashes and periods are the preferred characters in a file name.

Other characters should be avoided when naming media files. These are reserved and mean different things to different operating systems and can interfere with parsing the data correctly.

    / \ " ' , * ; ? [ ] ( ) ~ ! $ { } <> = + # @ &

    Example of compliant filenames:

    video_file_33246-46353_v2.mov
    video.file.33246.46353_v2.mov
    video file 33246 46353 v2.mov

    Example of non-compliant filenames:

    video,file#3462.mov
    scene56[A1-A2]_4473635.mov
    scene56_&_52+4473635.mov
    video/33243/4442.mov

EDL Ease may yield undesirable behaviors when converting EDLs that use non-compliant media names.

    Donations Gladly Accepted:

I have received emails from users of EDL Ease asking if they can donate. That is an amazing gesture and I take that as confirmation this thing really works for a lot of people in a big way. If you use EDL Ease and it saved you hours or days of tedious work and feel compelled to donate; send whatever you think this is worth to fund future development. Or you can just pass on my website to professional productions that may need rights and clearances research and administration and of course EDL conversion.
